The "Old Bridge" at the crossroads of religions

The "Stari Most" (Old Bridge) was built across the Neretva in Bosnia by the Turkish architect Hajrudin for the ruler Suleiman in 1566. It was a masterpiece of Osman bridge-building. The town of Mostar, which grew up on either side of the bridge, was named after it. It became the focal point in the lives of Moslems as well as Catholics and Orthodox Christians.
