Design for the Rialto bridge

Canaletto's painting depicts the design by Andrea Palladio for the Rialto bridge across the Grand Canal in Venice in the imaginary setting of other Palladian buildings. Characteristic for Palladio's style are the classical, especially Roman proportions and forms. However, his proposed design was never executed. Da Ponte built the now world famous Rialto bridge.
