Deutsche Welle

Deutsche Welle was founded as a public broadcasting corporation in 1953. It is now one of the largest overseas broadcasters in the world. The German programme of DW radio is transmitted world-wide on short wave and via satellite. For many Germans throughout the world it is an important "bridge" to events back home. Deutsche Welle also broadcasts radio programmes in 29 foreign languages, from Amharic (which is spoken in Ethiopia) to Urdu (the national language of Pakistan).
