The iron rolling mill

The Berlin painter Adolph von Menzel based this painting on over 150 sketches made in Chorzow. He clearly and impressively documents the infernal atmosphere and the tough working conditions for the workers in Silesia's largest foundry. This testimony to strenuous collective work is also called "Modern Cyclops".
