The Machine Age

The Industrial Revolution in the 19th century brought about major economic and social change in Europe. Industrial areas mainly grew up close to sources of coal and iron ore for steel production. Inventions such as the steam engine by James Watt replaced human labour and enabled the reorganisation of work and production processes.
