The border crossing point at Friedrichstraße station lies in the centre of Berlin. Until 1989, hundreds of travellers crossed the border here every day by train, urban rail or underground. The tour around the Palace of Tears and Friedrichstraße station focuses on this historic site. How was the city divided after 1961? Why was the border crossing point not directly at the border? How did the hub function that connected the East Berlin urban rail, the West Berlin urban rail and underground as well as the transit trains? The one-hour tour also examines how people departed from the GDR via the Palace of Tears.
