The virtual exhibition entitled "Divided - United. Fifty Years of the German Question (unification) in cartoons from the Haus der Geschichte collection" is arranged in sections as follows:
The entrance:
Here is a brief animated sequence showing the severed halves of a German flag joining together again. The door opens automatically after 15 seconds and you enter the foyer. Clicking on the flag opens the door immediately.
The foyer:
The foyer is the homepage of our exhibition. At the top margin of the screen you will find a navigation bar, and underneath that a message of welcome.
You can return at any time via the navigation bar to the Museum's main Internet presentation, to the cartoon homepage, to the Impressum (masthead, publication data) or to this route guide.
The foyer leads to 5 galleries, which you access by choosing the appropriate icon on the navigation bar.
The gallery area:
Each gallery contains 10 East German and 10 West German cartoons for one of the five decades. Miniature versions of the East and West cartoons of the various years are juxtaposed according to subject matter on one line. Click on any miniature to access its "cartoon niche".
The cartoon niche:
Here you find the enlarged version of the cartoon, the caption and explanatory text. If you are further interested in a particular cartoon, the Museum's own identification code (in small print underneath the explanatory text) will serve as a reference.
From any niche, you can switch to the facing page (East or West) or move to the previous or the next niche on the page by clicking on the arrows at the bottom of the page.
