Mobility from the post-war period to the present day: this is the subject of our show room in the pavilion directly opposite the Haus der Geschichte. We want to show what we collect as a museum and how a museum depot works in contrast to an exhibition.
Mobility affects us all. How has it developed since 1945? Visitors come across a Lloyd 300 that, because of material problems in the post-war period, consists of a wooden body and a coating made of imitation leather. Because people used to repair damages of this coating with plaster, the Lloyd got the nickname "Leukoplastbomber" (Leukoplast is a German plaster brand).
Bicycles with auxiliary motors also bear witness to the (re-)beginnings of mobility. The "Pöhlmann EL", on the other hand, is an early test car with electric drive from 1984.
Of course, there are not only vehicles in our show room. Video games and tin toys, posters, photos and signs give an impression of the range of our collection. And they reflect what is thought about mobility at different times in politics, society, economy and culture: From car cult and driving pleasure to the car as a "status symbol" to growing environmental awareness and reforms for climate-friendly ways of movement.
You are welcome to visit the show room from Tuesdays to Sundays during the opening hours of Haus der Geschichte. The show room is across the street from the museum and free of charge.
