Rückblende 2022

The German Prize for Political Photography and Caricature

The year 2022 is marked by the word "Zeitenwende ("watershed moment"), a year overshadowed by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. The Corona pandemic is followed by new crises: Discussions about military defense budgets, energy crisis, inflation, insecurity. But there is also great solidarity and willingness to help refugees arriving from Ukraine. In addition, people in Germany are dealing with the debates about the consequences of climate change. Drought and forest fires, but also protest actions are omnipresent and lead to controversial discussions - in the media as well as in private.

This year, the prize in the category "Best Photo 2022" is shared by Bernd Kammerer with his picture of a solidarity rally for Ukraine and Boris Roessler, who photographed a burnt forest area.

The duo Achim Greser and Heribert Lenz win the first prize in the caricature category with their work "Putin privat". Filip Singer and Florian Gaertner are awarded in the categories "Best Series 2022" and "Das scharfe Sehen". And Markus C. Hurek wins the audience award with his portrait of a woman protesting against the rulers in Iran.

The “Rückblende” competition is organised by the State Representation of Rhineland-Palatinate and the German Newspaper Publishers and Digitalpublishers Association in cooperation with the Federal Press Conference.
