BEYOND LINES Dance Performance as Part of Berlin Freedom Week

BEYOND LINES is a dance performance by LUNA PARK - in cooperation with the Tränenpalast, one of Berlin's most significant memorial sites. The performance explores the crossing of borders.
The performance explores the crossing of borders: the movements of departure, waiting, fear and hope. The leaving behind of home, language and the familiar. The courage to take a step into the unknown.
In the Tränenpalast – a place of farewell, control and transition – choreographic images of resistance, loss and change emerge. Bodies search for ways through obstacles, hesitate, carry, fall, rise again and find new connections.
The choreography invites the audience to experience the Tränenpalast as a place of remembrance and, at the same time, as a place of new encounters. It asks which borders people must overcome – then as now – and what movements arise when we find the courage to cross them.

BEYOND LINES is a joint project of the Tränenpalast and the Initiative LUNA PARK e.V. on the occasion of this year's Berlin Freedom Week.
LUNA PARK has combined professional dance production with socio-cultural practice since 2003. In its works, the team develops choreographic architectures in which bodies, space and social relationships are continuously renegotiated. Together with people of different generations and cultural backgrounds, spaces for encounter, participation and social dialogue are created.
The Tränenpalast, a central border crossing point between 1962 and 1989, is an important symbol of German division and commemorates the overcoming of the SED dictatorship and the fight for freedom and democracy.
Together with the museum at the Kulturbrauerei, it belongs to the Stiftung Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. The Foundation's task is to convey German contemporary history after 1945 and to conduct comprehensive collection activities for this period. Admission to the exhibitions is free.

Exploring the exhibition together
Whether it’s just you or a group of people who are visiting, we offer general guided visits to the Tränenpalast. Each tour of the exhibition will provide plenty of opportunities to ask questions, discuss the exhibits, and make suggestions. Our guides can support any special interests a group may have. The guided visits last approximately one hour and are free of charge.
Foreign-language guided visits
We offer guided visits for groups in English, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Cantonese and Mandarin. Please discuss the date, the size of the group and your needs with our Visitor Services at least six weeks in advance.
