2020 - an exceptional year! Dramatic images from the hospitals, depressing emptiness on the streets and in cultural places, closed borders, people at a distance. The photographs and caricatures of the "Rückblende 2020 - The German Prize for Political Photography and Caricature" emotionally and visually summarize the extraordinary year. They also show impressive works aside from the dominant subject of the corona virus pandemic. A selection from these works is on display at our museum.
The "Rückblende" has been a guest at the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig every year since 2002. The competition is organized by the State Representation of Rhineland-Palatinate to the Federal Government and the European Union as well as the German Newspaper Publishers and Digitalpublishers Association together with the partner Federal Press Conference.
Christian Mang is the winner in the “Best Photo 2020” category, with a photograph that he took during a so-called hygiene demonstration on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin. Mario Lars won first prize in the caricature category for his drawing of the lockdown. Gordon Welters received the audience award for photography for his portrait of the virologist and director of the Institute for Virology at the Charité, Professor Dr. Christian Drosten.
